Interbuild’s acacia worktops and Hardwax Oil have been declared globally Climate and Carbon Neutral Products

Two of Interbuild’s main products have been declared as globally Climate and Carbon Neutral
Products by South Pole, a leading climate solutions provider. This means that the greenhouse gas
emissions caused during the lifetime of the product, from the sourcing to the disposing of the product
after end of use, are being minimized and compensated for with high-quality carbon offset credits.
South Pole was engaged to perform a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of the greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions caused by Interbuild’s acacia worktops and Hardwax Oil. The assessment was a cradle-to-
grave analysis, which means analyzing and calculating all GHG emissions related to the products.
The study concluded that the biggest cause of GHG emissions caused by the acacia worktops was the energy required in the production phase. The plan to reduce emissions therefore focused on the conversion from using fossil fuels in production to using sustainable energy sources such as solar and/or wind power. Interbuild has also compensated for its product emissions and committed to a plan for reducing its already low emissions.
This is an important part of being declared climate and carbon neutral and leads to less overall emissions – decreasing from year to year. Interbuild is very proud of taking this important step in sustainability and is hoping that the market will appreciate having the choice to use products that are formally certified as having their GHG footprints compensated.
”By minimizing and compensating for the carbon footprint of some of their most important products, Interbuild addresses the climate issue in a serious and ambitious way”, says Johan Eliasson, Head of Client Offerings at South Pole in Sweden. He continues ”We endorse their efforts and hope that they will be inspirational also for other companies in offering customers on their respective markets the possibility to choose sustainable products and solutions.”
”The recently concluded climate talks at COP26 in Glasgow show how difficult it is to achieve real actual reductions in greenhouse gas emissions”, says Richard Mattus, responsible for climate projects at Interbuild. ”This is a first important step for us towards making all of Interbuild’s operations climate and carbon neutral.”
